Olympic Updates for India-Day 8

It was poor day for Indian athletes at Tokyo Olympics on Saturday barring Kamalpreet Kaur who reached the final in women’s discuss throw.Here are all the results.


Kamalpreet Kaur reached the final of women’s discuss throw with an effort of 64m.She finished second in Group B of qualification.Seema Punia missed the cut for final with best effort of  60.57m in Group A.In men’s long jump,Sreeshankar failed to qualify for the finals after he finished 25th with a best leap of 7.69m.


It was a disappointment for P V Sindhu and India as Olympic silver medallist failed Sindhu lost 18-21,12-21 to world no.1 Tai Tzu Ying in the semifinals of women’s singles.Sindhu still has a chance to win bronze when she competes against He Bingjiao of China on Sunday.


Atanu Das lost 6-4 in the round of 16 to Furukawa of Japan.With his loss,Indian hopes in archery also ended.


Indian women beat South Africa 4-3 in a thrilling final group game in hockey at Tokyo Olympics.India reached quarterfinals in women’s hockey for the first time ever.India will play Great Britain in the last eight clash.


Indian boxers had a poor outing on Saturday.Top seeded Amit Panghal shocked 4-1 by Rio Olympics silver medallist Martinez of Colombia in the 52kg round of 16 bout.Panghal looked tired in the final two rounds.Another Indian medal hopeful-Pooja Rani was thumped 5-0 by Li Quan of China.


Anirban Lahiri finished tied 28th after the third round in golf.


Indian sailing pair of K C Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar are languishing at 17th overall after the penultimate race in the men’s skiff 49er event on Saturday.
