Olympic Updates Day 5 for India
India had a good outing in a couple of sports such as archery,boxing at Tokyo Olympics However in hockey women suffered their third straight loss.Here isca recap of day 5.
Archery
World no.1 Indian archer Deepika Kumari advanced to round of 16 in individual recurve.She won both her rounds-6-0 against Karma of Bhutan and 6-4 against Jenifer Fernandes.Pravin Jadhav upset world no.2 Bazarzhapov 6-0 in his opening round.However his joy was shortlived as top ranked Brady Ellison beat Indian in round of 32.Tarundeep Rai also lost Shanny 6-5.
Boxing
Only Indian boxer in action on Wednesday,Pooja Rani beat Ichrak Chaib 5-0 to reach quarterfinals.Debutant Rani is one win away from Olympic medal.
Badminton
P V Sindhu reached round of 16 in women’s singles after beating Nigan 21-9,21-16 in Group A game.However B Sai Praneeth’s medal hopes ended after 14-21,14-21 loss to Caijavou.
Hockey
Indian women’s hockey team’s struggle continued after 1-4 loss against Great Britain.This is third successive group defeat for Rani Rampal led side.
Rowing
Indians Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh finished sixth in semifinals and thus were left out of medal contention in men’s lightweight double sculls.
Sailing
Varun Thakkar and Ganapathy finished 17 and 18th in 49er Race 3 and 4 respectively at Tokyo Olympics.
