Mirabai Chanu gives India silver at Tokyo Olympics

Chanu won silver medal for India on a historic opening day at Tokyo Olympics.  With no spectators watching inside the complex, Mira Hou bagged gold with a total of 210kg.

Chanu who hails from Imphal, became the second Indian weightlifter after Karnam Malleshwari to win Olympic medal for India.

Few days ago Chanu created World record in clean and jerk with 119kg lift. So she was confident in that event but in snatch she only needed good lift which she did earlier with 87kg.She failed her attempt at 89kg.

Her personal best in snatch is 88kg. Neverthless, what mattered for India is Olympic medal. 26 year old has won gold at World Championships in 2017 and also Commonwealth Games gold in 2018. This medal will hopefully inspire many youngsters in the country to take up the sport and India will have more champions in Weightlifting.

Kudos to Mirabai Chanu.
