Flying Sikh is no more

Legendary former Indian athlete Milkha Singh passed away on Friday after long battle with Covid-19.He was 91.He was a track and field star who came close to winning a medal in 400m at 1960 Rome Olympics.He was known as ‘Flying Sikh’.

He is the only athlete to win gold in 400 meters at Asian Games as well as Commonwealth Games.He also won gold medals in 1958 and 1962 Asian Games.The most significant race he ran was at Rome Olympics in 1960 when he clocked 45.73 seconds which was Indian national record that stood for 40 years Unfortunately he missed the bronze as he slowed down after 250m.

In 2013,a biopic on Milkha Singh’s life-‘Bhag Millkha Bhag’ was made.Farhan Akhtar played the role of Milkha Singh.The film was a hit and won 5 awards at IIFA in 2014.

In 2017 Singh’s wax statue created in London was unveiled in Chandigarh.
