Sportsnasha Sunday Special…By Paramdeep Rathee

Some unknown facts and stats in Cricket:
1. Did you know the father-son duo of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tagenarine Chanderpaul were once involved in a run out. The incident took place during the semi-final match of West Indies domestic tournament Super Cup 50 in 2018. Tagenarine was the one who got out
2. As we all know, MS Dhoni was run-out on his debut match But, Mashrafe Mortaza was the first bowler to actually dismiss MS. It was the second match of that ODI series where Dhoni scored 12(11)
3. Ravichandran Ashwin is the only active player to score 250+ runs and pick 20+ Wickets in a Test series. He Scored 306 Runs & Picked 28 Wickets Against England In 2017.
4. In August 2006, Pakistan become the first ever team to Forfeit a Test Match. The Umpire Has accused Pakistan for Involving In ball tampering and thus ended up awarding 5 Runs To England, Pakistan debated the matter at Tea and refused to come back and play the Final Session Of the 4th Day. The Umpires had called time and awarded the game To England. After a month long debate, ICC cleared Pakistan off ball tampering But banned Inzamam-ul-haq for 4 ODI’s. After 2 Years, at the Pcb’s request, ICC turned the result into a Draw. But after a year’s time, ICC Once again changed Its decision and thereby awarding the game To England.
5. John Traicos is known as tri-nation man as he was born in Egypt and played for Zimbabwe and South Africa. He was primarily an off spin bowler.
6. Sachin Tendulkar played for Pakistan before India. He acted as a substitute for Pakistan’s Javed Miandad and Abdul Qadir who left the stadium. He was positioned at long-on by Imran Khan. He also dropped the catch of Kapil Dev once.
7. The greatest batsman to set foot on a cricket pitch, Sir Don Bradman was stumped only once in his glittering test career. He was stumped by none other than Probin Sen, the Indian wicket-keeper. The bowler was Vinoo Mankad.
8. Virat Kohli has set such unparalleled records with the bat that we often forget that he was a handy medium-pace seamer early in his career. He was handed the ball for the first time in his career in 2011 against England in a T20I. He was bowling to Kevin Pietersen. He ended bowling a wide first up and Pietersen who was charging down to hit Kohli for a boundary was stumped down the leg-side by MS Dhoni. So, Kohli didn’t bowl a single ball in international cricket as his first ball was a wide but since a stumping goes in the account of the bowler, he had a wicket! Hence, effectively, Kohli had a wicket off the “0th” ball of his career.
9. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, during a series against India in 2002  played a total of 1051 balls in 4 innings and remained unbeaten (Not-out). Till this date, nobody else has reached this record.
10. Getting to witness one 10-wicket haul in Test cricket is a great feeling, but what if you get to watch two? Well, that’s what happened to Richard Stoke. He was there was a boy to see Jim Laker take 10/53 against Australia in 1956. Then in 1999 he saw Anil Kumble grab 10/74 vs Pakistan as a man. He had gone at the age of 10 with his father to watch the Ashes Test and luckily got to see history being made. Then as fate would have it, in 1999 he was a travelling businessman who happened to be at the Kotla when Kumble repeated the feat. Talk about amazing facts of cricket, this surely cannot be a miss.
