Seasoned campaigner Anuraj Bagri (-170) handicap) of Elphinstone Club came up with an impressive performance to romp to a 200-106 victory over clubmate Sunil Jain (-130) in a Round of 16 matches of the BSAM- Maharashtra Challenger Tour Billiards at the Bombay Gymkhana’s billiards room.
Anurag played confidently and hit two substantial efforts of 70 and 62 as he smoothly crossed the finish line and set up a quarter-final meeting with Sidhraj Shah of Cricket Club of India.
Sidhraj (-50) also enjoyed an easy outing as he comfortably got past Raj Khandwala (-130) also from CCI by a huge 200-78 points margin.
Top-ranked Sparsh Pherwani (- 225) fired in three breaks of 54, 53 and 42 and went on to sideline beat Dharmesh Mistry (-100) winning by a massive 200-60 points difference, Second seed Hasan Badami (-190) of CCI also progressed the quarterfinal by registering a 200-162 win against Hindu Gymkhana’s Sandeep Teli (-50) in another pre-quarter-final encounter.
Earlier, Ankit Thakkar of Matunga Gymkhana (-150 handicap) and Amit Sapru of Park Club (-170 handicap) both produced some steady performances to win their respective round of 32 matches.
Ankit was in complete control as he raced past Garware Club House player Karan Gandhi (-50) 200-151, while Amit played consistently to sideline Khar Gandhi (-50) 200-151, while Amit played consistently to sideline Khar Gymkhana’s Manoj Kasare (-90) by a convincing 200-152 points margin. Both Ankit and Amit will clash in the next round.
