Karman Kar Thandi went down to top seed Zheng Saisai in a first-round match of the L&T Mumbai Open WTA $ 125K Series at Cricket Club of India center court here on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old started well by winning the first two games but the Chinese came back strongly to seal the first set. Zheng surged to a 5-1 lead in the second set but Karman tried her best to make it 5-4. But Zheng stood calm and held her serve comfortably to close the match.

“I started well, probably she missed a few more balls initially. I started missing a few shots mistakes here and there and later staged a comeback but had given too much lead already, “Karman rued after the match.
Fourth-seeded Olga Danilovic was the biggest casualty of the day losing to unseeded Danka Kovinic 6-4, 5-7. 0-6. On Tuesday Sabine Lisicki, former Wimbledon finalist was ousted by eighth seed Nao Hibino of Japan 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.
Last year’s runner-up Dalila Jakupovic of Slovania got past Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 6-1.
