India’s young table tennis players Rajveer Shah and Raegan Albuquerque dazzled in the Egypt Junior & Cadet Open, with the former cornering a gold and the latter two silver medals in Sharm El Sheikh.
The Maharashtra duo showed great form and skill to make a killing to mark their progress in the highly competitive ITTF Junior Circuit.
Thirteen-year-old Rajveer proved to be unstoppable in the Mini Cadet Boys, literally sweeping aside all his opponents to be crowned king. He defeated two boys from Egypt, Mohamed Elsisy, to sail into the semis.
Rajveer underlined his class against Sweden’s Elias Sjogren too, taming him 3-0. The finals was equally easy for the Maharashtra boy, with another local boy Badr Mostafa unable to stop him.
Raegan warmed up by clinching a silver in the Junior Boys’ team category, combining with Sweden’s Oskar Danielsson. In the Junior Boys’ Singles, Raegan breezed past Andrei Radu Miron (Romania) in the pre-quarters, Abdelrahman Dendan (Egypt) in the quarters and Marwan Abdelwahab (Egypt) in the semis, with identical 4-1 margins.
However, he couldn’t top it off with the gold, with unseeded Shixian Ding from China getting the better of him.
