Anand inspires men’s team to win over Austria

Viswanathan Anand opened his campaign in the 43rd World Chess Olympiad at Batumi, Georgia, with a win against Austria but a draw by B Abhiban means the Indian men’s team lost another half-point in the Open section of the competition. The women’steam, led by Droavalli Harika, maintained its perfect start with another 4-0 romp, against Venezuela in the second round on Tuesday.
India, who managed a 3.5-0.5 win against EI Salvador in the opening round, repeated the same result as Anand comfortably defeated GM Markus Ragger of Austria to give India the lead and Vidit Santosh Gujrathi got the better of Andreas Diermair.
