The women’s hockey team gained a spot to be ninth after losing in the Women’s World Cup quarter-finals to Ireland in the latest FIH rankings chart released on Tuesday.
In women’s rankings, India are the ranked highest team in Asia, ahead of-of Korea (10th), China (11th) and Japan (14th).
World champions the Netherlands remained on top, ahead of England, Australia, Argentina, and Germany.
Ireland, who were runners-up in the World cup, jumped eight places to be eighth.
The new ranking means that the India women will go into the upcoming 18th Asian Games in Jakarta as the top-ranked team in the world.
