Wimbledon- One of the most august and tradition-laden sporting
events -is back with much fanfare
Wimbledon is back which means one thing -the whole country will go tennis-mad for a fortnight. For tennis fans, the fortnight between July 2 and July 15 is sure to be one of their favorite times of the year as they will be wondering who will be victorious this year. Will we see a return to From Murray? Or will Federer or Nadal claim the crim the crown? On the women’s side of the draw, will it be another great year for new mum Serena Williams?
Wimbledon 2018 will take place some 141 years after the first, so it’s fair to say that the Championships have been in existence in one form or another since 1868, it was in 1877 that their first Lawn Tennis Championship was held. “There’s a certain beauty and majesty to Wimbledon-the elegance, the way the grass looks on tv,” notes Ajay Shukla, a tennis enthusiast who is also traveling to London to watch the Wimbledon live for the first time.
ROGER FEDERER AND WIMBLEDON -WILL THIS BE HIS LAST ONE?
For close to two decades Roger Federer and Wimbledon have gone together like strawberries and cream, which incidentally go down well at Wimbledon too. The Swiss tennis maestro has produced some of the most exciting and most impressive performances the patrons at SW19 have sen and has become a firm fan favorite.
Wimbledon 2018 will be Federer’s 20th All England Championship and that’s got people wondering whether it might just be his last.”Thoughts of retirement may well have occurred to him, and there would be no better way to go than in the wake of a magnificent ninth Wimbledon title this year. What all of that means is that you might not have many more chances to see Roger Federer in action, so you’d best make the most of any which do arise,” days Vikram Verma, a die-hard Federer fan.
Says a football admirer Dr. Jitin Chadha,” I am expecting a new winner this year. Wimbledon center-court is this year. Wimbledon centre-court is the place where dreams are realized and something tells me we are realized and something tells me we are going to go beyond the regular guys this time around. I am willing to put my money on Marin Cilic for a first-ever Wimbledon win. He is probably the best classical serve and volley player around after Federer which is so critical at Wimbledon, is young, in good form and has a good record at Wimbledon. Maybe this will be one of 2018’s great sporting events is your chance to enjoy the action.
