FIFA WC 2018: Not AI or Analytics, but a deaf cat to predict the winners

While the various industries across the world right from finance to sports industry rely upon the data and it’s analysis for prediction, the responsibility of predicting the FIFA WC 2018 world cup lies in the hands of ‘Achillies’ the deaf cat named as the animal psychic.

It is interesting to know that the tradition of appointing (formally or informally) animal psychic is being followed from many world cup editions in the past with the last famous being ‘Paul the Octopus’. Paul’s prediction success ratio for the 2010 WC edition was a staggering 85.7%, predicting 12 correct out of 14 match results. Paul however was a veteran psychic predicting match results right from Euro 2008 to World Cup 2010 until his death in October of 2010.
Achilles has a bigger shoes to fill in, considering it will not only be compared to Paul but also with the IBM’ Watson and Google’s Deepmind. It will determine the accuracy of Supernatural prowess against its digital counterpart.

Whatever may be the prediction off field, the game will still be won the ground by the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar Jr. Game On!
