MP Skipper Shakti Raut & team leads from the front in the opening day of the Women’s premier League ‘18

Played at the Shivaji Park in Dadar, it was a proud moment and a great start to the cricketing environment as women cricketers braced themselves from different states to take on each other for intense competition. The opening day went with thundering success with MP winning both the matches on the back of their talented skipper Shakti Raut.

In the 1st match vs Maharashtra Master Blasters, Maharashtra won the toss and elected to bat first with an aim of making a big total. However, the pitch looked supportive more for the spinners due to some due and presence of grass.  MP took full advantage and hardly looked affected after being made to bowl first as Maharashtra were bundled out for 85runs all out in 13.3 overs. Skipper and off spinner Shakti Raut led from the front being the pick of the bowlers taking 3/9 in 3.3 overs while Bhavna Srivastav also bowled really well taking 3/29 in 4overs. Both the bowlers looked impressive and Shakti displayed a lot of maturity. MP chasing 86 were off to a good start with the help of Mahima Devre who top scored with 31 while Aayushi Dongre also looked impressive for his 24. MP won the 1st match by 5wkts and 5.1 overs to spare and skipper Shakti was declared ‘Women of the match’. The rest of the team also did a good job with players contributing in their capacity.

In the match vs UP, UP also elected to bat first after winning the toss despite the difficult track which offered more support to the bowlers. UP managed to make a decent score of 120/7 in 20 overs with their openers Poonam Parate and Ritu Chauhan chipping in with 20’s while Binita at no.4 top scoring with 28. From MP, Shakti Raut was again the pick of the bowlers taking 3/24 in 4overs while Chetna Bairagi chipping in with 2wkts too. Chasing 121, it was once again their dynamic MP Skipper Shakti Raut who anchored the chase with a blazing 43* off 25balls to steer MP to a thumping win by 5wkts in mere 15.2 overs.

It was skipper Shakti Raut who was adjudged ‘women of the match’ in both the matches as she stood out with her perfomance as well as captaincy. The rest of the girls also played really well and co-ordinated with the skipper perfectly.
