Future Stars of India

Sanjana Dhulla,a third year undergraduate student of electronics engineering came third in acceleration
segment of ‘Formula Bharat’,event held in Coimbatore last month.It was national intercollegiate event
on the lines of international formula racing where teams have to design their own car prototype.Sanjana
was the only woman among more than 100 drivers participating in nearly 70 teams from all over the
country.She was part of Orion Racing India-her college’s contingent name consisting students from
mechanical,electronics and computer science disciplines.In the acceleration segment participants were
expected to drive for 75 meters in straight line.Sanjana and her team from K.J.Somaiya College shone
at the racing event.Sanjana will only improve from this and make an impact in formula racing in future for
India.
Isha Pawar is another teenage girl who is making rapid strides in archery.She is national champion in Mini
sub junior category.9th Std.student from Chiplun won bronze in national school competition in Chattisgarh
from which 8 girls were selected for Khelo India Games,intiative by our PM to promote grass root sports.
Isha won gold medal in compund archery in Khelo India which concluded recently.In fact she overtook
5 international archers in knockout en route to her gold.So far she has won 66 medals including 31 golds.
14 year old is a bright prospect in archery.Let us hope she will make India proud  in major events like Asian Games,Commonwealth Games and possibly Olympics in future.
Karman Kaur Thandi is a future tennis star for India.Four years ago as 14 year old she emerged as the
champion in under 16 WTA Future Stars event.Past week she and Ankita Raina ensured that India remain
in Asia Oceania Group I of Fed Cup.In New Delhi while Ankita remained unbeaten in all her singles matches
Karman too did not disappoint.She played a key part in giving India 1-0 lead in a do or die tie against
Chinese Taipei.Karman beat crafty Lee Pei Chi 7-6,6-3 in the first singles.Mahesh Bhupathi,India’s Davis
Cup Captain is mentoring Delhi Girl’s career for the past couple of years.From world ranking of 603 at the
end of 2016 Thandi has risen to career high 282 as of now and briefly even held the position as India’s
No.1 female tennis player.Big serves and impressive groundstrokes characterise her game.We may get
to see her playing in Grand Slams soon.
There may be many more talents like above 3 girls in various sports all over the country.After Sindhu and
Sakshi’s Olympic success many girls are taking sports as a career seriously.Only thing is we must support
their passion and give proper guidance to them so that they can bring laurels to our country.
