Unsung Stalwarts of Indian Cricket-Ajit Pai the Magical Mumbai Allrounder-Interview part 2

Interview part 2

In era of 70s, Cricket in India meant Mumbai and Cricket in Mumbai meant Shivai Park. Most Mumbai cricketers and followers  would agree.

Suburbs of Mumbai had no wicket, only mat wickets. So only genius could reach  A class level in cricket. Playing Ranji Trophy for Mumbai was more difficult than playing test. More difficult even for those not staying near Shivaji Park or main city. But one boy from suburb beat all the odds to not only play for Mumbai but for west Zone and then for country. Thy name is Ajit Pai. Yes Ajit was probably the first cricketer from Mumbai suburbs to play test cricket for India. By no means a small achievement.

But sad to mention cricket has changed from Arts to Commerce and  only those who follow it passionately would appreciate real class of players like Ajit.

Sportsnasha team loves to meet such unsung stalwarts and relive their golden days. It was pleasure talking to Master Allrounder at his home in Mumbai.
