Vish(y) ing   You All the Best!!

Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand takes on Hikaru Nakamura of United States in the first round of the Sinquefield Cup, a part of the Grand Chess tour at Saint Louis Missouri, USA. The Indian chess wizard will be playing 5 whites and 4 blacks in 10 player round-robin classical chess event for the total prize of $300000. Sinquefield Cup is one of the strongest events played by world’s leading chess minds including current World Champion Magnus Carlsen.

Grand Chess Tour 2017 is a chess tour of total 5 events – Paris GCT, Your Next Move(Belgium), Sinquefield Cup(on-going), Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz (14 to 19 Aug)  and London Chess Classic(Dec’17). Anand participated only at Belgium and wasn’t impressive in finishing overall eighth in combined standings, garnering only three Tour points.

Anand who recently said that, Roger Federer’s 19th title win at Wimbledon at the age of 35 inspires him to keep going with competitive chess at the age of 47. Sinquefield Cup will be the best opportunity for the 5 time world champion to bounce back, as it will boost his confidence for the up-coming chess world cup in Georgia from September. These two tournaments hold utmost importance for Anand and his fans as he aims to get his world championship contention back on track. Finishing in top 2 at Chess World Cup in September can get him direct entry to Candidates Chess which will determine who plays current world champion Magnus Carlsen in November 2018.
