Mumbai Ultra Run Event to watch out

Mumbai Ultra 12 hour marathon
Coming Sunday, Mumbai will witness the 4th edition of the Mumbai Ultra 12 hour marathon. Organized by running enthusiast, this non commercial venture will see 500 registered runners take up the challenge of running for 12 hours.
Running has become a lifestyle for many in the city and this ultra edition gives them an opportunity to test their endurance.
Naveen Hedge, Ogranizer and running coach said that the route for the ultra marathon would be from Shivaji park to Worli seaface via Prabhadevi. The runners will run this distance in loops as the race starts at 5am.
An ultra marathon is generally a race more than the conventional full marathon of 42.195km. It can extend to 1500km too.
Present at the press conference were Mrs Usha Soman and her son Milind Soman. The 78 year old retired professor of Bio Chemistry has always inspired Milind in sports from an early age. Milind Soman started competitive swimming at the age of 9 and went to become the national champion for 4 consecutive years. He also won the silver medal for India in the South asian games.
Post modeling and acting, Milind has been the face of running in India. He completed the Ironman run in the US last year in his first appearance. The 50 plus young athlete said that one should not give any excuses and avoid a fit lifestyle. He said that he runs as it keeps him happy.
He also said that the mindset of an athlete for an ultra run is quite different from a full marathon. Endurance sports is a different ballgame and he was happy to see more Indians take up endurance sports.
Usha Soman will also be participating in the ultra run and will attempt to complete 42km with breaks.
The participating athletes will be monitored for their health status simultaneously by a team of medical professionals who will be a part of the ultra run.
