An Interesting conversation indeed: “Cricket with Mama Panwala”- Aju Deshpande
During my weekly visit to Pan shop yesterday, I had some interesting cricketing debate with Mama Panwala. It made my tobacco less Poona Masala Pan taste like Banarasi masala . It went some what like this….
Mama– Aju Bhai Pan Mitha ke Sadha ? (Sweet or simple )
Me– Make mitha (sweet) only Mama.
Mama– Tell me one thing Aju Bahi, Who is owner of RCB? Now that Vijaybhai is relaxing and sending Chris Gayle congratulatory messages sitting in England.
Me– I don’t know who controls RCB Mama. It could be anybody including or excluding Mallya wholly or partially, directly or indirectly, actively or passively, happilly or unhappily, royally or aristrocatically. But why are you asking Mama about RCB? I don’t know any owner of any IPL team except for Mumbai Indian and that everybody knows.
Mama– Aju Bhai Mumbai Indians have rich, high profile , politically powerful and professionally resourceful owners. So it is obvious they are winning and RCB owners are out dated and indebted so they must be losing !
Me– What do you mean by good owners Mama?
Mama– Good owners means who don’t have any loans outstanding and who haven’t ran away from country after not paying salaries of it’s employees.
Me– I know Mama, but one thing is sure since Mallya and his son have disappeared from dressing room RCB has started losing and Gayle sixers have become extinct & quite a rarity.
Mama– Aju Bhai but their team RCB is very dangerous with players like Gayle, Kohli and De Villier. Still why they are losing Aju Bhai?
Me– Mama! IPL is not about cricket, it is about business management. Those who manage business well can manage cricket also well.
Mama– But KKR is doing well and their owners are not businessmen but actors and actress so how come they win all the matches Aju Bhai.
Me- Mama you don’t understand . Actors are also businessmen and businessmen can also be actors . Players are never businessmen but businessmen know how to play games.
Mama- Aju Bhai but tell me why RCB is losing and is still at the bottom of the table and why Kohli is failing again and again?
Me– Kohli is failing because Anushka is not watching and Gayle is failing because Mallya is not watching. If Mallya comes back and cheers him then RCB will start winning and Gayle will start playing.
Mama– Aju Bhai but how will Mallya come ? He is on bail in UK and he will never come and if he does not come RCB will keep losing.
Me- Mama don’t worry slowly and steadily Reliance will take over all the teams in IPL and ultimately it will be reliance 1 Reliance 2 …
Mama– If Reliance takes over all teams then who will win?
Me- Mama you don’t understand business in cricket and cricket in business . It will be Ambanis who will win each and every match each and every season.
Mama– What will happen to Shah Rukh then , he will lose his major income from IPL.
Me– Mama, Ambanis will pay him double what he earned and take over KKR . After all Ambani is paying Jio owners double data than what others give just for peanuts.
Mama– Oh! That means it’s a win win for every one when Ambanis enter the fray.
Me– That is what is Only Vimal sorry Only Reliance! Whatever it touches becomes Only. Can you be loanly Mama? I mean give me some loan.
Mama– Why Aju Bhai?.
Me– I want to buy Reliance shares Mama. We should also make some money out of this whole cricket business.
Mama– Yes Aju Bhai, after all we sweat it out more than players, travelling by local train in second class for watching live IPL in stadium with a hot coke bottle costing Rs. one hundred and cold Vada Pav costing Rs.50, leave alone cost of ticket Rs.2K .
