Cricket History 13-05-17 by Suhas Bengeri

2003

On this day Australia  had set West Indies 418 to win – higher than any total previously chased down in Test cricket. West Indies slipped to 74 for 3, and lost Brian Lara for 60 with the score on 165. But RamnareshSarwan, with a feisty 105, and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, with 104 fought back bravely. It was left to Omari Banks and Vasbert Drakes, though, coming together at the fall the seventh wicket with 46 still required, to finish the game off. Banks, playing just second Test, made a spirited 47 not out, Drakes made 27 not out, and West Indies made history. Previous record was by India against W.Indies.
