The South Mumbai chess Academy (SMCA) & IIFL Private Wealth management organized a simultaneous exhibition chess match with Ukrainian Grandmaster Alexander Goloschapov at the Kamla Mills Compund’s in Lower Parel, Mumbai. A total of 40 kids competed with the GM, of which former Singapore Open champion Rishab Shah of Cathedral & John Connon School managed to squeeze out a draw, creating flutters all around.
Goloschapov is one of the top 10 coaches of the world who has also worked with Indian Grandmasters Parimarjan Negi, Shardul Gagare, SP Sethuraman in past. While among the participants were many promising players including Schools silver medalist Mrudul Dehankar from Nagpur and reigning Under-7 World Schools Blitz Champion CM Kush Bhagat.
The Ukrainian GM was stunned with the talent Mumbai city has in the game. “They are anyway talented and this exposure will help them go to places. It’s also an opportunity for them to showcase their love and commitment chess,” he said.
