Madrid Open Tennis Report by Shailesh Padhye

Rafael Nadal beat David Goffin of Belgium 7-6,6-2 to reach semifinals of Madrid Open.Nadal and Goffin were meeting after their controversial semifinal in Monte Carlo last month where disputed line call turned the match in Nadal’s favour when Goffin was serving at 3-2 in the first set.However after winning first set tiebreaker today Nadal was on a roll against Belgian.He saved all five break points he faced in entire match.
Nadal had a scare in his opening round against Italian Fabio Fognini in Madrid.He is playing in his home town Masters 1000 event which he won four times before.
Now it sets up a blockbuster semifinal against 2nd seed Novak Djokovic who got walkover from Kei Nishikori.Djokovic leads their head to head series 26-23.They have met in 2011 Madrid final when Djokovic ended Nadal’s 37 match unbeaten run on clay by beating him in straight sets in the final.It will be 50th meeting between two rivals.
